Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
No. Lymphatic drainage uses very light pressure—about the weight of a nickel—because superficial lymph vessels are delicate and collapse under heavy pressure. Deep tissue massage targets muscle tension, whereas MLD targets fluid movement just below the skin.
Frequency depends on your goals. For post-surgery recovery, clients often benefit from 2 to 3 sessions per week during the early recovery phase. For chronic conditions like lymphedema or general wellness, sessions every 2 to 4 weeks are typical for ongoing maintenance.
For conditions like lymphedema, lipedema, or acute post-surgical swelling, wearing compression garments or bandages after your session helps maintain the fluid reduction achieved during therapy. Your therapist will advise you based on your evaluation.
Most people feel relaxed and light after treatment. Because MLD mobilizes fluid and metabolic waste, you may experience increased urination, mild thirst, or gentle fatigue as your body clears the fluid. Staying well-hydrated helps ease these effects.
