Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
No. Lipedema is a medical fat and connective tissue disorder, not a result of overeating or a sedentary lifestyle. Unlike metabolic fat, lipedema tissue is structurally different, painful, prone to inflammation, and largely resistant to standard diet and exercise. While healthy lifestyle habits support overall well-being, losing weight alone will not reduce lipedema fat deposits.
Although lipedema primarily affects fat and connective tissue, it creates significant congestion in the surrounding micro-vessels. Fluid gets trapped in the interstitial spaces between lipedema fat cells, causing swelling, high tissue pressure, and severe tenderness. MLD gently drains this excess fluid, reducing internal pressure and providing noticeable relief from heaviness and soreness.
Yes. Lipedema is a progressive condition, but structured conservative management—combining MLD, medical-grade compression, tissue care, and gentle movement—is highly effective at slowing down or stopping progression. Early intervention keeps tissues soft, prevents secondary lymphedema (Lipo-Lymphedema), and maintains your daily mobility and independence.
Flat-knit compression garments are generally the gold standard for lipedema care. Unlike circular-knit garments (which can act like elastic bands and cut into tender lipedema folds), flat-knit material provides a stiffer, custom-shaped bridge over tissue folds. This creates high working pressure that holds swollen tissues firm during movement and encourages fluid clearance without causing pain.
No, MLD should never be painful. Lipedema skin can be exceptionally tender and bruise easily, which is why deep tissue massage or heavy pressure must be strictly avoided. MLD uses an extremely light, skin-stretching rhythm that works on the delicate superficial lymphatic vessels just beneath the skin. Our therapists adjust every session to your comfort level to ensure a soothing, pain-free experience.
